The MBBO (and MBBI) types of records don't deal with bits.

They provide an enumerated value, a number 0..N to describe N different states, and each state can be mapped to/from an underlying raw value, see

If you want to control bits of a value, look at the MBBODirect (and MBBIDirect) types of records, https://epics.anl.gov/base/R7-0/6-docs/mbboDirectRecord.html

There each bit comes with a PV like "name_of_record.B5"
