Hi,

We've been using the Agilent for a few weeks here at Diamond. I have
only managed to get it to work using a soft IOC (running on Red Hat
enterprise 4). I'm using EPICS 3.14.8.2 with Asyn 4-8 (which has support
for the Agilent using VXI11) and StreamDevice 2-2 (for the device I'm
talking to).

The Agilent seems to work fine. However, at power up occasionally the
Agilent fails to find any GPIB device on the bus, and another power
cycle is needed (but this has only happened a couple of times).

I'm also able to disconnect and reconnect both the Agilent network cable
and the GPIB cable, and the IOC is still able to communicate to the GPIB
device. Only a power loss to the Agilent requires an IOC restart.

Also, the Agilent has status lights (ethernet, GPIB access and power)
and a status display on the front panel, which is always useful for
debugging.

Cheers,
Matthew

Subject: GPIB Ethernet gateway recommendation

Can anybody recommend me a good GPIB Ethernet gateway for using with
EPICS? I will be using it with a Linux machine working as soft IOC.
I know Aglent E5810A has been discussed on Tech-Talk, but I am curious
if anybody have a recommendation on a device like that.
Also, if anybody have a information/suggestion on using one of these
device as oppose to using a PCI GPIB interface card, that would be a
welcome. In particular, I am most interested in the reliability of GPIB
Ethernet gateway as opposed to using a PCI card.
