To follow up, most people are using the 32-bit EPICS Channel Access shareable libraries with IDL. It is necessary to run the 32-bit version of IDL in this case as well, but this works fine.

Subject: XOP
I have not been able to use XOP for some time under Linux due to some
obscure problem between X11 and the XOP virtual machine. In an effort to
overcome this VM issue I bought an IDL license, only to realize that my
new desktop machine (and the IDL I bought) is running 64-bit linux and
all of the binaries underlying XOP are 32-bit.
Is anyone supporting XOP anymore? I don't see any files on the ESRF site
newer than 2007. I see that APS is listed as being an "XOP site". Would
it be possible for someone with appropriate access to update it?
Thanks,
Pete.
