I don't think so; that's what I tried first and it did not work.
Mind you, I'm not claiming to understand the behavior.
Here's something I wrote down at the EPICS training at BLN:
'Bob [Dalesio] went into a lot of details about the way data are sent around the network. One thing that stuck out was a remark about how record data are queued in network packets:
"... waveform records are the exception. Their values are not queued, but the p
ointers are."
To which I asked: "Is that why my waveform records often do not update properly
in EDM when they are changed by a subroutine record?" Answer: Yes.'
