This is again a question of how you want to handle it:
Where do you put "shared" files, like *.opi or Data Browser configs?
You can put your "global" *.opi files onto a web server,
and add the links to them to the "Top OPIs" menu.
That way, every user always has access to the most
recent version, no need to copy them into the workspace.
Plus they're automatically read-only.
For things that you want to reach as files, maybe allow
editing based on the usual file permissions,
a linked directory is good, but then there's the question
of how each user gets the appropriate link into their workspace.
In the SNS control room we start CSS with a command-line
option
-share_link /path/to/some/folder
It creates a linked directory for that folder in the user's workspace.
The folder is some NFS location with subdirectories
for common OPIs, PACE configs etc.
That way nobody needs to manually create the linked folder.
You can start with a 'blank' workspace; you'll get the link.
We currently, however, support only a single -share_link option,
so everything must be in subdirectories of that one NFS location.
Thanks,
Kay
