Your EPICS_BASE path above is missing a leading '/' character, which explains
the symptoms you were reporting. If you put spaces on both sides of the '='
sign it becomes slightly easier to read and recognize these kinds of mistakes.

That looks about right, although I haven't actually tried following his
directions myself. The version numbers that article mentions are in many
cases a bit out of date now, but the techniques are generally the same.
