In the documentation of motor record, it says: "The following
controllers are supported IN ADDIDION TO SOFT CHANNEL SUPPORT".
What is meant with this ?
"Soft Channel support" refers to EPICS device level support where
there is no underlying hardware. All of the device support provided
with EPICS base is some variation on "Soft Channel" device support.
For example, in the devSoft.dbd or softIoc.dbd files located in
<base>/dbd you will find ;
devSoft.dbd:device(aai,CONSTANT,devAaiSoft,"Soft
Channel")
devSoft.dbd:device(aao,CONSTANT,devAaoSoft,"Soft Channel")
devSoft.dbd:device(ai,CONSTANT,devAiSoftRaw,"Raw
Soft Channel")
devSoft.dbd:device(ao,CONSTANT,devAoSoftRaw,"Raw Soft Channel")
The EPICS motor module also has Soft Channel device support. There
is a tangent arm example here
in the EPICS motor module document.
