Subject: Leica laser tracker integration with EPICS

For our engineering materials diffractometer instrument, we have been approached about the feasibility of integrating a laser tracker into the beam line EPICS system. The idea would be to use the laser tracker to measure position and compute six misalignment parameters. The misalignment parameters would be passed to the EPICS-based motion control system to correct positioning.

How anyone attempted this before? (I found a related query in tech-talk from 2016 but no response.)

The Survey & Alignment team suggests the Leica AT401 Laser Tracker [1] with the Spatial Analyzer (SA) software [2]. The SA software has a scripting interface (Measurement Plan) [3, page 927] which could be used to calculate the transformation from a measured misalignment to a motor move. The SA documentation [3, page 969] indicates that SA includes an OPC server.
