Dear EPICS community
A quick plug for three new software releases that were just
deployed on GitHub in support of the control and monitoring of
EPICS systems from the web:
1. Java Channel-Access Client Library "ca"
https://github.com/channelaccess/ca
This library has now received a "makeover", bringing its
build system and documentation up-to-date and fixing an issue
which affected interoperation with EPICS 7.
The library provides an annotation-based approach that was
first used in JCAE. It can also be dropped into MATLAB
environments to provide the interface to the control system.
Thanks to J Lewis Muir for his contributions, to Ralph Lange
for pointing us in the direction of the latest version of
the CA Protocol Spec, and to Jeff Hill for technical insights
on the CA Repeater.
2. Wica-HTTP (Wica = "Web Interface for Control Applications")
https://github.com/paulscherrerinstitute/wica-http
This is basically an EPICS REST Server which generates
live data streams for channels-of-interest from the backend
EPICS control system.
3. Wica-JS
https://github.com/paulscherrerinstitute/wica-js
This is a Javascript library which uses special tags embedded
in a user's webpage to stream data from the REST Server to
update the webpage with live data.
I think Dirk Zimoch talked about the technology involved in
Wica at the Cadarache 2019 web services session.
You are warmly invited to try out any of the above, to offer us
feedback and improvement suggestions via the associated GitHub
issue trackers, and/or to make direct contributions via fork/pull requests.
Thanks and best regards
Simon
