Hi Freddie,
I know about that pyhon options. It is in the CAEN manuals.
I already thought about implementing it via pyDevSup as an correct IOC PV with python or with a simple C library as an asyn device.
But it looks like kind of reinventing the wheel because streamdevice seems to be perfectly suited for this simple text parsing.
Thanks, Benjamin

Hi,
It looks like CAEN provide a python library for access via the websocket, so maybe using https://github.com/mdavidsaver/pyDevSup/ is another option

Freddie

I have a CAEN N1081A programable unit which uses websocket with a json based control protocol for communication. I guess the json part is simple to implement in streamdevice. I am not sure about the websocket part.
Is it possible to connect to a websocket device via streamdevice. Or has anybody ever used such an CAEN unit?
There are a number of C and C++ websocket libraries<https://github.com/facundofarias/awesome-websockets#c> available, but to use one of them from StreamDevice would need integrating with Asyn and another kind of serial port creating that uses one of them. I haven’t heard of anyone doing that yet; it should be possible, but would be a fair amount of work.
