Hi Abdalla,

At the APS most of us are using Aerotech air-bearing rotation stages and Aerotech Ensemble or A3200 NDrive drivers. We use the Position Synchronized Output (PSO) from these drives to trigger the detector while doing continuous rotation.

You may be interested to know that we have recently developed a Python package called tomoscan that uses EPICS PVs to control all aspects of the tomography data collection. It is easily adapted to different cameras and motion hardware.

Assuming that there is not an existing EPICS driver, you will need to write one. Which specific Gold ServoDrive model do you have. Do you have the documentation for how to control it via a socket? This link seems to suggest that they provide a .NET library, which would be only for Windows.

They also mention EtherCAT. Do they provide way of controlling it over TCP so it can easily be run from Linux?

Mark

Subject: ELMO motion control using EPICS

Hello community

Is there an EPICS driver for the ELMO motion controller? specifically the Gold ServoDrive series? This motion controller will control the air bearing stage of the tomography beamline.

Best regards
Abdalla
