My two cents would be to use pkgsrc
https://www.pkgsrc.org/
which could provide packages for various UNIX-like OSes including RHEL,
Debian, macOS, etc. The packages would not be installed to the system
locations on those OSes (e.g., /usr/bin, /usr/lib, etc.), but the
packages would be consistent across all the supported OSes.
