Cool, I guess if we restrict to only generating the .req file, this way the solution will be quite nifty. Adding the xml generation library to it will make it bulky.

I suggest a two stage solution, the makeArchiveConfigFile will make a .req file. Each line of this .req file will contain all the necessary archive information per PV. This file can subsequently be parsed using a python app for generating a CSS archive compatible xml config file.

We can extend the AutosaveFileFromDbInfo function and request the maintainer if this can be a standard feature of autosave.

It will help if you can suggest names and the parameters that we may require from the info field.

Correct, if you create some makeArchiveConfigFile("/path/to/config.xml") tool for the IOC, you could use the info field support code in EPICS base to get the information, invoke it in st.cmd, so after each IOC reboot you'd have an archive config file for the IOC.
At the time we were looking for a tool that runs on the host, at the time you "make" the IOC software. But you can't archive anything unless the IOC is running, so requiring the IOC to start first is actually somewhat logical.
