The more interesting version info is in the Help/About dialog, which should say something like
"master 2022-03-25" to show the git branch and build date.
Using a download from right now, I cannot duplicate the issue. Editor opens fine.
There _is_ a preference/authorization setting for opening the editor, which should default to allowing anybody to open the editor, see https://control-system-studio.readthedocs.io/en/latest/authorization.html and the current default settings https://github.com/ControlSystemStudio/phoebus/blob/master/core/security/src/main/resources/authorization.conf
In case you configured site-specific authorization settings, you need to add this to your authorization.conf
# Anybody can run Display Editor
edit_display = .*
Or start over with default settings by deleting the .phoebus folder in your home dir.
