I’ve not used a Prologix adapter in a long time and certainly never in a production 24/7 environment.  Is the traffic low enough that you can just turn on ASYN debugging and see if something odd shows up there?

The symptoms certainly sound like a problem with the Prologix unit.  What happens if some client or state notation program arranges for the IOC/Prologix connection to disconnect and reconnect every hour or so?  I also would not be surprised if it were some other network traffic confusing the Prologix — can you put it on a segment with nothing but itself and the IOC?

Hi Eric and all,

We have been using a Prologix Ethernet/GPIB converter to talk to an older HP power supply.  It is generally working, but we see an infrequent problem (every few hours to every few days)
-          There is a timeout talking to the Prologix
-          When it recovers within a second or so the power supply briefly reports that it is over-voltage and over-current.
-          The power supply has turned off the output voltage.

We are facing a chicken and the egg question.  Did the power-supply glitch, and cause the Prologix communication timeout, or did the Prologix glitch and cause the power-supply to turn off?

Yesterday we switched to the older serial to GPIB converter, and that did not glitch for about 24 hours.  This device was previously used for several years before we bought the Prologix, and we don’t ever recall this issue with the power supply turning off the output voltage.

Today we are trying an Agilent E5810B VXI-11 gateway to see whether it glitches with that or not.

Have you ever seen a problem with glitches with the Prologix device?

Thanks,
Mark
