> .. when I input a number into a spinner .. if I press enter .. the number shows up correctly ..
The text field of the spinner behaves just like text entry field.
Text Entry widgets display the current value of a PV. When you click the widget or type anything into the widget, it enters an 'active' state, indicated by a different background color. It will now stop displaying received PV updates so you can edit without
interruptions. Press 'Enter' to confirm. Press 'Escape', 'Tab', or click elsewhere to abort.
Imagine you want to change the value from "98" to "101".
So you have to type "1", "0", "1", "<Enter>", and the value will change from 98 to 101.
If we instead sent everything that's typed right away, the value of the PV would be
- 98 (initial value)
- 1 (you entered "1")
- 10 (you added the "0" to the "1")
- 101
Moving a motor from 98 to 101 mm is what you wanted.
Instead it hunted from 98 to 1, then 10, then 101.
Or worse in case you managed to "append" the first "1" to 98, so now we jerk the device from 98 to 981, ..
The spinner does right away send the value update when clicking the up/down arrows because they are presumably configured to result in just about the right step size change.
