No, they are not redundant.
Its more a case of a softIOC that is necessary to the operation of a particular instance of a module, but too specific to be embbeded in the module itself as a whole.
So i would like for that particular instance to always come up with the module and the softIOC that controls the module.
So i guess wanting an EPICS tool for that was a little naive of me.
Thanks 🙂

Guess the IOC2 is not redundancy of IOC1?
If yes, it would be a topic of redundant IOCs.
Otherwise, as you mentioned, you can use a regular external script, for example a bash script as you mentioned, to monitor for example the heartbeat of IOC1, & IOC2, to do the job.
Thanks,
Guobao

In the case IOC2 dies the ideal would be IOC 1 respawning it.
I didnt think about a case with more than two IOCs but im imagining a kind of process cascade right now.
Answering to this question i realized that maybe procServ with a regular bash script would do the job...

What happens when IOC2 dies? So does IOC 1? Or does IOC1 restart IOC 2? What happens when you have 5 – 10?

Subject: Making IOC spawn another IOC
Hello all
I have a softIoc which controls operation of some other IOCs. Im interested in keeping the IOCs as separate processes, yet associate the initialization of one IOC with the initialization of the other IOC in such way that whenever IOC 1 is initialized, it spawns
IOC 2 and when IOC 1 dies, IOC 2 also dies.
Is there an EPICS tool for that or should i look more into my OS process management tools?
Thanks for any tips,
Marco
