Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System

FYI for those new to VMEs & EPICS: how a VME is rebooted can affect
whether or not autosaved positions are restored to the motor records for
OMS cards (VME58 & MAXv).
Hard rebooting a VME's CPU (power-cycle, physical reset button, doodle
board & ctrl+y*3) resets the OMS controller's motor positions to zero,
which usually results in the restoration of autosaved motor positions.
Soft rebooting a VME's CPU (ctrl+x) does NOT reset the OMS controller's
motor positions, which usually results in the restoration for autosaved
motor positions for only the motors that have sufficiently non-zero
positions (>RDBD), assuming the RSTM field hasn't been changed.

This is very different than generating a VME bus RESET ... like the
doodle board Mark mentioned does. We (APS) have found it invaluable to
be able to generate a hard VME Reset through the doodle board.
Otherwise, techs would be called in to cycle the power (2 hour delay).
