We have been using these deices in the past:

The serial protocol they speak can be processed with streamdevice.
Obviously, you need a serial port to connect this. Their maximum voltage
supported for DIO is 3.3V (I think), but afaicr they are 5V tolerant (or
you need to add a voltage divider, optocoupler or similar).
