Is there anything obvious we are overlooking? We can get a bit further using

Some of the recipes in src/Makefile are prefixed with spaces instead of a tab.  :P

My branch also includes an ugly hack to select correct header and library names.  With these changes, I can build and link on Debian 13.  I have not tried to run anything.
