It might not be smart to have no timestamp, but refusing to archive without a clear message - sorry.

Our tools should be robust and help the users - not educate them.

Then the alarm status. The archived data comes practically always from IOCs(*)....

I cannot imagine cases where this would not be interesting.

EPICS has never kept the users from doing stupid things. I like that approach.
