Hi All:

I'd like to bring to your attention  a different motion controller: 
PMAC (Programmable Multi-Axis motion Controller) manufactured by Delta Tau (www.deltatau.com).

1) it allows synchronized motion of the multiple motors.
2) it allows to use servoloop with two encoders per motor, one - for position feedback, another - for velocity feedback (installed on the motor shaft).
3) it is supported by EPICS

This controller is capable to control motors of different types including step motors.
