Hi Billy,

no one intends to change the old versions - that's for sure. Calm your breath.

All 3.12 and 3.13 versions should run on all HP-UX machines. Forever. Until the machines die. Or even longer.

With 3.14 (and its introduction of threads) things became less simple. For the multithreading capabilities of EPICS 3.14 you need posix threads, which were introduced with HP-UX 11, and the new C++ compiler that came with it.
All versions up to 3.14.8.2 are working on HP-UX 11.0 (and the corresponding C++ compiler) - see BASE/documentation/README.hpux for details.
3.14.9 will not compile with the HP-UX 11.0 compiler (aC++ version 3). On newer HP-UX 11.23 machines there's a new compiler (aC++ version 6), which might work, but BESSY doesn't have such a machine, nor that compiler, nor any intention to get one.

Cheers - and good luck with your historical machines ;-)
Ralph

Kazuro,

We still have four HP-UX EPICS computers left at NASA-Langley Research Center running EPICS R3.12.2. There are no plans to upgrade one of them. We will continue to need this one!
I am in the process of upgrading three of them to newer Fedora Core 6 Linux computers running EPICS R3.14.8.2. However, at least temporarily, we will need to keep EPICS R3.12.2 on at least one of the three HP-UX computers for IOC software development.
