Hi Kevin,


re using generic EPICS records. That is what I have done in the pmac driver by providing :DirectDemand PV (which is linked to a busy record that clears when the motor is done moving).


However, I felt that this was a bit messy, it was a breaking change to the interface and is a one off for our specific controller. A 'dumb' motor record mode would support all intelligent controllers and not require changes to the  software layers above.

You aren't required to use the motor record to communicate with model 3
asyn motor drivers.  It is possible to use generic EPICS records with
asyn device support to access the various asyn motor parameters, which
would effectively be a 'dumb mode'.
