Hi Mark,

I think maybe there is a mistake in your note: there are no package names of “rpcgen-devel” and “tirpc-devel”. Instead the package names appears to be just “rpcgen” and “libtirpc-devel”.

I installed the following packages for building EPICS base 7 and EDM:

dnf -y install epel-release
dnf -y install gcc gcc-c++ gcc-toolset-9-make readline-devel perl-ExtUtils-Install
dnf -y --enablerepo=PowerTools install re2c libusb-devel rpcgen
dnf -y install libxml2-devel libtirpc-devel pcre-devel libXext-devel libjpeg-devel readline-devel boost-devel

For EDM:
dny -y  --enablerepo=PowerTools install giflib-devel
dnf -y install zlib-devel libpng-devel giflib motif-devel libXtst-devel

When building EDM, I ran into a few minor issues with gif but the recent tech-talk thread on "EDM in RHEL8 or Centos8" was very timely and helpful and the build worked with just a small patch (attached) based on Ernest and Ernestos suggestions.

Next I "just" need to figure out the local runtime configuration, fonts, etc. That will have to wait for another day...

Cheers,
Ulrik

wow I didn't realize that I was opening a can of worms regarding EDM source code home...

Sounds good Mark. I've got myself a centos 8 VM now so will have a go too.

Cheers,
Ulrik

I think

See

for the best I could find, and no reply on Tech-Talk.
