Hi Andrew,
I thought it may work with the drvAsynIPServerPortConfigure. As stated in https://paulscherrerinstitute.github.io/StreamDevice/tipsandtricks.html#web and https://epics.anl.gov/modules/soft/asyn/R4-38/asynDriver.html#PortDrivers .

I know this method is working with my telnet compatible devices. As I understood it does directly open an IP connection.
I gave it a try but failed. But maybe that was my fault. I simply was sending the json string to the device via a IP connection using a proper configured drvAsynIPServerPortConfigure and got no answer in return.

Thank, Benjamin

I have a CAEN N1081A programable unit which uses websocket with a json based control protocol for communication. I guess the json part is simple to implement in streamdevice. I am not sure about the websocket part.
Is it possible to connect to a websocket device via streamdevice. Or has anybody ever used such an CAEN unit?

There are a number of C and C++ websocket libraries<https://github.com/facundofarias/awesome-websockets#c> available, but to use one of them from StreamDevice would need integrating with Asyn and another kind of serial port creating that uses one of them. I haven’t heard of anyone doing that yet; it should be possible, but would be a fair amount of work.

Complexity comes for free, simplicity you have to work for.
