The following configurations are always a mystery for me, making me
confused. I think I don't have enough knowledge on them.

EPICS_CA_AUTO_ADDR_LIST=YES
EPICS_CA_ADDR_LIST=localhost

From my few test environments, I don't need any configuration at all,
everything seems to work without them.

Maybe Han you can clear this up for me why the install looks in this archappl.conf file and not at the env variables that are set in ~/.profile?

The environment which I made is to isolate all users ENV variables
from 4 Tomcat processes (mgmt,etl,...). The main wrapper script will
call each startup.sh located in {mgmt,etl,...}/bin installation path.
So that is my design decision. However, I never check if these
environments are defined system-wide configuration (globally).

Anyway, as you know, my intention is to give a little help to set up
the archiver appliance when users, who do not have many experiences on
many services (mysql, tomcat, java, and so on) would like to
understand how it works. That is the main purpose of this repository.

I will have another one for the full production configuration in near
future (next year) for the upcoming project where I am working on.

Thanks,
Han

But it has something to do with either changing the AUTO_ADDR back to NO or adding the env variables to the archappl.conf file. Will update once I figure out which one it is. But thank you both for helping me debug it was extremely helpful!

Everything seems to be working great with the application and I am able to access the archiver web application just fine. I start up a basic softIoc with a couple PVs and my pyDM widget is able to control and access them just fine but I cannot get them to be archived by the appliance. I can also use caget/camonitor/caput without any issue to manipulate the softIoc. I saw another post about checking the ports in the appliances.xml but that seems to be correct from what I can tell. I tried to look through the logs in /opt/epicsarchiverap/engine mgmt etl retrieval but I didnt see any errors that stood out. I am not sure if its a connection issue with the ca and the archiver or a record thing I am missing but any advice would be helpful. I have tried using ca://calc:a , calc:a but no luck getting it to archive.
