Hi Andrew,

Thanks for your reply and the idea. Coincidentally, we already a version of the devSymb module that Micheal Davidsaver worked on to use registered variables. Now I know what to do.

What's the easiest way to connect "variable(foo, int)" lines in my dbd file to epics records?
I have many such variables throughout my code for debugging using epicsExportAddress(int, foo) in my C code.

The code from the devSymb device support could probably be modified to make those variables available, but you’d have to replace the symbol lookup code with calls to epicsFindSymbol() (declared in epicsFindSymbol.h). I think I was originally planning to change that module to use the registered variables (possibly in addition to using epicsFindSymbol) but I never got around to actually doing that.

Complexity comes for free, simplicity you have to work for.
