There were some discussions about this a few months ago. Here's one of my messages: Ralph Lange would like to have the capability for a soft IOC to reboot itself. The easy way to handle this would be to have the IOC main program fork and wait, run the IOC in the child, when the child wants to reboot it would exit with a magic code -- the parent process would detect this then fork again and the process would repeat. Of course this extra overhead would be performed only when requested -- when a '-R' option is specified, perhaps. After some discussion we decided that an easy and portable approach is to run the soft IOC from a perl (or python or tcl or whatever) script and have that script restart the IOC when the IOC terminates. You could limit this to perform the restart only when the IOC terminated with a specific code, if desired. -- Eric Norum <[email protected]> Advanced Photon Source Argonne National Laboratory (630) 252-4793
